Faith
Standing on the ledge,
Surrounded by emptiness.
Everything is dark,
So dark.
“Are You there?”
I call out,
Hoping for an answer.
Nothing.
Only silence.
Not even an echo.
I inch closer to the edge.
My toes are suspended
Over nothingness,
My heels resting
In the dirt.
“I can’t do this without You!”
I yell. Still no answer.
The Darkness is mocking
Me with Its silence.
I am scared, but
I trust You.
“Don’t let me down.”
Slowly, so slowly,
I creep just a little
Further. Tottering now
On the ledge.
My head says, “Turn back.”
My heart says, “Press on.”
My stomach is in knots.
I take a deep breath
And gather my courage.
I lift my foot,
Moving it forward.
I put it down again.
There’s only air to hold me.
My heart stops-
Caught in my throat.
I’m falling!
“Where are You?”
Still falling!
Everything is dark.
I can’t see the ground.
I reach out towards the Heavens,
My last hope.
And then….
I feel Your hand reach down.
You grab my wrist
And pull me into Your arms.
Everything is bright now.
“You’re here!”
You smile at me.
“I always was.”
